Building Sri Lanka's Sustainable Luxury Villa Story Through Science, Technology and Strategic Market Positioning

The Challenge

Located along the pristine coastline of Kalametiya near Tangalle, CEU Ceylon had already embraced sustainable hospitality long before sustainability became a global travel trend. The property utilised renewable energy, eliminated single-use plastics, served drinking water in reusable glass bottles, and adopted numerous environmentally responsible operating practices.

Despite these efforts, the property's sustainability story had never been professionally communicated to the travel trade. Prior to partnering with Elevate Hospitality, CEU Ceylon was managed by one of Sri Lanka's leading hotel management companies. However, the owners felt the property's unique strengths were not being effectively positioned, resulting in pricing challenges and limited market recognition.

The property was actively working with only five Destination Management Companies (DMCs) in Sri Lanka and had limited direct international travel trade exposure.

Our Solution

Rather than relying on generic sustainability claims, Elevate Hospitality developed a science-based commercial positioning strategy supported by measurable environmental data.

Our scope included:

  • Conducting a comprehensive carbon emissions assessment led by our former Co-Founder, Mathi Thayanan, a Certified Carbon Consultant, to quantify the property's environmental performance.
  • Translating technical sustainability data into compelling marketing messages that resonated with international travellers and travel professionals.
  • Positioning CEU Ceylon as one of Sri Lanka's leading sustainable private luxury villas through evidence-based storytelling rather than marketing buzzwords.
  • Introducing the property to a network of over 200 inbound tour operators and Destination Management Companies (DMCs) across Sri Lanka, resulting in 10–15 key DMCs actively promoting the property.
  • Securing a direct commercial agreement with one of Germany's leading tour operators, expanding the property's international market reach.
  • Implementing the complete Exely Hospitality Solution, including:
    • Property Management System (PMS)
    • Channel Manager
    • Revenue Management System
    • Reputation Management Platform
    • Direct Booking Engine
  • Introducing CEU Ceylon to specialised luxury villa concierge and travel designer networks across the Asia-Pacific region to increase exposure among high-value travellers.
  • Providing ongoing hotel revenue management, pricing optimisation, online distribution management, and travel trade business development.
